Michele Merens is a writer and playwright whose fiction has been published in a dozen magazines and anthologies. Her plays have been shared with audiences on stages in New York City, Chicago, Milwaukee, WI, Hartford, Conn. and Omaha, NE. She has also worked as an assistant editor at a publishing house in NYC and as a line editor for the fiction publisher, Gardenia Press. She prefers to work with manuscripts in Word and her rates fall into the following categories.
For a "quick read" fee of $150, your manuscript will be read in full and you will receive a breakdown of general strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript overall in a separate report. Inconsistencies, contradictions, confusions within segments of the manuscript will be pointed out to you and possible solutions will be offered. Michele will also provide you with a line edit of one chapter of your book, if desired, to point out strengths and weaknesses in your writing skills. The entire process usually takes about two weeks maximum, depending on mutual schedules. This is a flat fee, and non-negotiable.
For a "line edit" fee of $600, Michele will provide the above "quick read" services as well as read and edit one complete draft of your manuscript by sentence and paragraph, editing and reorganizing, when necessary. She will not rewrite your manuscript nor reorganize large portions; rather she will consult with you on areas where she feels major rewriting/reorganizing may be warranted. This process can take four to six weeks and will be time-intensive so this is also a flat fee and non-negotiable. If you decide to use her services for a second full draft review and/or line edit, additional hourly fees can be discussed at that time.
